Ingredients

1 3-4 lb beef chuck roast

1 TB oil

1/3 cup sweet Marsala

2 tsp dried basil

1 tsp garlic salt

1/2 cup plum preserves

4 med potatoes, peeled, cut

4 med. carrots, peeled, cut

1 large rutabaga, peeled cut

1 med. onion, cut

2 tsp cornstarch

1 TB cold water

Preparation

Preheat oven to 350. Brown meat all over in hot oil. Stir together marsala, 1/3 cup water, basil, garlic salt and pepper. Pour over meat. Cover, bake 1 1/2 hours. Melt Preserves, pour over roast. Add vegtables to roast. Cover bake 45-60 min. longer, stirring once. Measure juices, skim off fat, add water to make 1 1/2 cups. Add corn starch and water mixture to juices, cook 2 min. until bubbly.
