Ingredients
2 ½ c flour
1 c confectioners sugar
½ c butter,softened
½ c shortening
1 egg
1 ½ tsp almond extract
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 tsp salt
½ tsp red food coloring
½ c peppermint candy (crushed)
mixed with ½ c sugar
Preparation
Preheat oven to 375.
Cream butter, shortening, powdered sugar, egg & extracts.
Blend in flour & salt, then divide dough in half. Blend food coloring in one half.
Shape 1 tsp of dough from each half in 4 in. ropes. Lay side by side, pinch ends together, and lightly twist into candy cane shape.
Place on un-greased cookie sheet. Bake about 9 min. or until set and lightly browned on bottom.
Sprinkle with candy mixture immediately while still hot.
