Ingredients

4 cups flour

2 Tablespoons baking powder

1 teaspoon soda

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 Tablespoon sugar

2/3 cup chilled butter, additional melted butter to brush biscuit tops

1-1/2 cup buttermilk

Preparation

Combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter and mix with a pastry blender until coarse crumbles form. Add buttermilk and stir until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough onto a lightly floured surface; knead lightly four or five times. Roll dough until about 3/4 inches thick; cut with a biscuit cutter. Place onto a baking sheet, brush tops with melted butter, and bake at 450 degrees for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
