Ingredients

3/4 cup butter, softened,

1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar,

1 egg,

1 teaspoon vanilla,

2 cups all-purpose flour,

slivered almonds for garnish,

1/4 cup butter,

2 1/2 cups powdered sugar,

1 teaspoon vanilla,

3 tablespoons milk

Preparation

In a large bowl, cream butter. Gradually add brown sugar, creaming until light and fluffy. Add egg and vanilla; blend well at low speed. Gradually blend in flour at low speed until a stiff dough forms. Chill dough for easier handling if desired. Shape dough into balls about the size of marbles. Place on a greased cookie sheet. Flatten each to the size of a half-dollar with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 7-9 minutes until golden brown. Cool. Frost with Browned Butter Frosting. Garnish with slivered almonds.

To make Browned Butter Frosting: In medium saucepan, brown 1/4 cup butter. Remove from heat; blend in powdered sugar, 1 teaspoon vanilla and enough milk until thick enough to spread.
